The Vertical Interpretation of the Western Poetics of “Defamiliarization”
——From Aristotle to Brecht
    Abstract: Nowadays, domestic scholars’ discussions and studies on the theory of “Defamiliarization” mainly revolve around the definition and the interpretation of the term “Defamiliarization” advanced by Russian formalistic literary critic Shklovsky. It  seems that the “Defamiliarization”is the theory only belong to Shklovsky. However, after studying the history of western literature and art and aesthetics, we will find that this is not the case .The poetics of “Defamiliarization” is advanced by Aristotle, developed by Mazzoni, Addison , Hegel and so on, and finally matured by Shklovsky and Brecht. It had experienced three different developmental stage and become a kind of “Poetic” theory and tradition with its own position.
